1984 Fernando Valenzuela Game Worn Los Angeles Dodgers Jersey with Olympic Games Patch. When El Toro burst onto the Major League scene for his rookie season in 1981, the twenty-year-old southpaw quickly developed into baseball's story of the year and a media icon. He won his first eight starts (five of them of the shutout variety), baffling opposing batsman with his unorthodox pitching motion, dreaded screwball, and Fernandomania following. At the season's end, his hardware include the Rookie of the Year, Cy Young, Silver Slugger, strikeout title, All-Star ring, and World Series championship ring.

The jersey offered here dates from Fernando's 1984 campaign, when he was named an All-Star for the fourth straight season and registered 240 K's. The button-down, home white knit heralds "Dodgers" scripted across the chest in blue with "34" offset below in red. Meanwhile, "Valenzuela" is magnificently arched on the verso with "34" below, all sewn-on in blue on white tackle twill. The left sleeve displays the "Los Angeles 1984, Dodger Stadium Olympic Baseball" patch and there is a "Goodman & Sons" manufacturer's label in the collar with El Toro's custom tailored off-size of "43" indicated in red. The identifiers are pliable and show fraying, the fabric has the look and feel of multiple washings, and evidence of perspiration is visible in the collar, all of which is indicative of genuine game wear.
