Description

1984 Bruce Sutter Game Worn & Signed St. Louis Cardinals Jersey, SGC Very Good/Excellent. One of the sport's most dominant relievers in the 1970's and 1980's, Sutter was long counted among the most egregious omissions from the Baseball Hall of Fame before the call finally came eighteen years after his last professional pitch. Sutter led the National League in both mound appearances (63) and saves (45) the year he donned this blue knit roadster, earning his fourth top-five finish in Cy Young balloting--he had won the Award in 1979. This was Sutter's last season in St. Louis before closing out his career with three years in Atlanta.

The classic "birds and bat" logo spans the chest in luxurious chenille above Sutter's number "42," which the franchise retired in his honor even though Jackie Robinson had already removed those digits from Major League usage nine years earlier. The number appears in larger format on verso beneath "Sutter" affixed in the same two-tone tackle twill directly to the jersey body. Lower left front interior tail is tagged "Rawlings [size] 44" with "Set 1 1984" flap tag anchored at right edge. Minimal to light wear evident. Black sharpie signature on lower left obverse is 9/10. LOA from SGC, Very Good/Excellent. LOA from Heritage Auctions. Full LOA from PSA/DNA. Full LOA from Beckett Authentication Services.
