Description

1983 Carl Yastrzemski Game Worn Boston Red Sox Jersey. Much like Ted Williams, Carl Yastrzemski had a sometimes strained relationship with the Boston faithful. By 1983, Yaz was at the end of his Hall of Fame baseball career. While a World Series was never realized, Yaz accomplished about everything a baseball player can. This "Wilson [size] 42" knit jersey was worn by Yaz during his final year of big league play. Acceptable use is shown on the two-color team name and since-retired "8" digit on back. Red braiding surrounds the neck and races down the button path. A Wilson size tag appears in the collar -suggesting the shell dates to 1982, not surprising for a farewell tour of a legend--while the tail features a lone "83" year swatch. Yaz signed near the bottom button in 10/10 black felt tip. Most of the Red Sox jerseys from this time featured the Wilson tag in the tail but the team did carry over shells from 1982 for use in the following season. Because 1983 would be Yaz's final season, there was a huge demand for his game worn jerseys. LOA from Heritage Auctions. Auction LOA from James Spence Authentication.
