Description

1982 Willie Stargell Game Worn & Signed Pittsburgh Pirates Final Season Jersey, MEARS A10. When this bright yellow uniform variant first appeared in the Pirates wardrobe in 1977, the reaction had been intense both in favor and in opposition, but two years later the Bucs won it all so the distinctive jersey style and the "bumblebee" cap that served as the cherry on top became universally beloved symbols of that glorious "We Are Family" era in Steeltown, The team would abandon the format in 1985 but it's still a jersey seen often in the stands of home games and more than once on the field for throwback contests. Willie Stargell, of course, is the player most immediately associated with this style, so it's a thrill to present one of these gamers from his very last of twenty-two seasons of service to the franchise. "Pirates 8" commands the chest in black-on-white tackle twill, with the now-retired number repeated in larger format on verso below an all-black "Stargell" affixed to rear nameplate.

"Wilson [size] 48" label is affixed at interior collar, while embroidered "8 82" swatch is sewn at lower left exterior tail. Game wear of the knit pullover is assessed as "moderate" as to be expected from limited action as a forty-two-year old elder statesman. Upper right chest is signed, "To Rusty, Willie Stargell" in 9/10 black sharpie. LOA from Heritage Auctions. Full LOA from PSA/DNA. Full LOA from Beckett Authentication Services.
