    Description

1982 Phil Niekro Signed Game Worn Atlanta Braves Jersey. When Phil Niekro was coming of age, few pitchers threw the knuckle ball because it was just as hard for pitchers to throw and catchers to catch as it was for even the best players to hit. In fact, one of the reasons Knucksie toiled in the minors for so long was because his catchers were unable to handle the fluttering trajectory of his wicked floaters. Catcher Bob Uecker once remarked that the best way to catch Phil's knuckler was to "wait until it stops rolling and then pick it up."

Niekro pitched in the Major Leagues for twenty-four seasons, past the age of forty-eight, and recorded 318 W's, 3,342 K's and only 1,809 walks. He was inducted into the HOF in 1987.

The powder blue knit pullover here was worn by the Godfather of the Knuckleball during the 1982 season when went 17-4 with a league-high .810 winning percentage. That year he was also an All-Star, Gold Glove recipient and placed fifth in the Cy Young Award balloting. "Atlanta 35" adorns the front with "35" on the verso, all sewn on in blue on white tackle twill. Meanwhile, "Niekro" is arched across the back nameplate in tall and thin, blue tackle twill. Trim around the collar and sleeves is of the blue/white/blue variety. Tagging includes a "Wilson 42" in the collar and an "82" swatch in the tail. One of the coolest autographs on a uniform that you will ever see appears under the front identifier in NRMT razor fine black sharpie. Completely original with evident game use. LOA from Heritage Auctions. Full LOA from PSA/DNA. Auction LOA from SGC Authentic.
