The most beloved man in the Majors

1981 Willie Stargell Game Worn Pittsburgh Pirates Jersey, MEARS A10, with Cap & Pants.
"When I played, there were 600 baseball players, and 599 of them loved Willie Stargell," fellow Hall of Famer Joe Morgan explained. "He's the only guy I could have said that about. He never made anybody look bad and he never said anything bad about anybody." Like Roberto Clemente, with whom Pops shared half of his two-decade Pirates career, Stargell brought far more than world-class skills to the ballpark, reveling in the opportunities afforded by fame to effect positive change both on and off the Major League diamond.

The offered alternate black jersey finds Stargell in his penultimate professional campaign, the mild but definite game wear attributable as much to his primary role as a pinch hitter as to the players' strike that whittled the season to just over 100 games. "Pirates" and "Stargell" adorn obverse and verso respectively in yellow tackle twill, the number "8" that would be retired from service in September of 1982 affixed beneath each. Lower left front tail bears proper "Descente 100% Nylon" manufacturer's label above an embroidered "8 46 81" swatch.

Cap is the classic bumblebee pillbox format, bearing a Roman numeral "8" in black and autograph in red beneath the visor, and "New Era [size] 7 1/4" tagging at interior headband. Solid wear is found here. Finally, a pair of 1977 uniform pants are clearly an authentic Pirates garment, but, lacking any player attribution, we offer them only for display purposes. "Descente" tagging inside with "Set 1 1977" flap tag. Minimal wear. LOA from MEARS, A10. LOA from Heritage Auctions. Full LOA from PSA/DNA. Auction LOA from SGC Authentic.
