1981 Nolan Ryan Game Worn Houston Astros Jersey Sourced from Team Executive, Rare Style, MEARS A10.
Rare pale grey knit was occasionally utilized by the Astros on games outside the 'dome, and would be highly coveted by sophisticated collectors. The shirt dates to the 1981 campaign in which The Ryan Express led the National League with an astonishing 1.69 earned run average. "Astros" and the Lone Star are screened to jersey chest, with "Ryan 34" applied to verso in navy tackle twill. The love-it-or-hate-it rainbow striping adorns the shoulders, and dual "Sand-Knit" labels in the tail denote Astros exclusivity and size "44." The all-important "81" year swatch links the jersey to Ryan's historic season. Solid wear is evident throughout with puckering on the numbers and NOB. The jersey is sourced from a team employee and will come with a letter of provenance from him. MEARS graded the knit masterpiece a perfect A10 given the exemplary story and equally great use. Letter of provenance from son of President of Houston Sports Association. LOA from MEARS, A10. LOA from Heritage Auctions.
