Description

1980 Ozzie Smith Game Worn San Diego Padres Jersey. Generally regarded as the finest fielding shortstop in the 150-year history of professional baseball, and with an endless list outrageous fielding feats which need to be seen to be believed, Ozzie Smith was a fifteen-time All-Star, thirteen-time Gold Glove winner, and World Series champion.

Offered here is an early gamer dating from the dawn of the electrifying Hall of Fame shortstop's nineteen-year Major League career and his inaugural Gold Glove season. As spectacular in its presentation as its original owner was in the field, the road brown knit pullover has "padres" arched over the chest with "1" on the verso, all of which is sewn-on in gold on orange tackle twill. Also on the verso can be found a brown knit nameplate with "Smith" artfully arched in tall, thin, gold tackle twill letters. Meanwhile, the jersey is further accentuated with gold and orange trim around the v-neck and sleeve cuffs, Tagging includes a Wilson 40" label in the collar and a brown swatch in the tail with "1 80" in white chainlink.

This exemplar exhibits with pliable, frayed, and puckered identifiers from a season's worth of wear and multiple washings. The right side of the back numeral has partially detached from the jersey, however the winning bidder could easily have the number professionally restored if he/she so chooses. Even without restoration, the garment still displays beautifully. With 1970's and 80's knits continuing to grow in price and value, here is a golden opportunity to own an early Ozzie with a season's worth of wear at a still attainable price tag. LOA from Heritage Auctions.
