1980 Johnny Bench Game Worn Cincinnati Reds Jersey, MEARS A7. Though this leading figure of the Big Red Machine would end his seventeen seasons of faithful service to Cincinnati in 1983, the 1980 campaign marks his last of thirteen in the Reds' starting catcher role. The presented home white knit gamer exhibits "minimal to light" wear from that transitional campaign, marking the closing chapter of what was arguably the greatest career ever executed while wearing "the tools of ignorance."

The instantly recognizable style debuted in 1972 and remained effectively unchanged for two decades, and is thus identical to those jerseys worn during the storied Machine days. Jersey chest is adorned with a red tackle twill number "5" and a chenille and tackle twill team logo, with verso boldly reporting "Bench 5" in red tackle twill. Lower right is tagged "Wilson [size] 44" with a "Set 1 1980" flap tag at right seam. The garment remains 100% original and unaltered from its time with the Hall of Fame backstop, docked three points by MEARS only for the light wear. A 10/10 blue sharpie signature on the chest completes the assessment of the faultless aesthetics. LOA from MEARS, A7. LOA from Heritage Auctions.
