Description

1980 Johnny Bench Game Worn & Signed Cincinnati Reds Jersey with Provenance. Johnny Bench is the gold standard for baseball catchers of any era. At nineteen, he was repositioning veteran infielders and advising star pitchers. By the time he was twenty, he had redefined how to play the position. Even now, long after his playing days have past and his ten Gold Gloves, two MVP's, and two World Series championships have been committed to memory, Bench still matters.

Presented here is a home white knit pullover worn by Johnny during the 1980 season when he was elected to his thirteenth consecutive All-Star Game. White knit pullover sports sewn-on identifiers in fire engine red tackle twill and white chenille embroidery. Red and white trim accentuates the ribbed v-neck collar and sleeve ends, while the interior right front tail reveals a "Rawlings 44" label and "Set 1 1980" flag tag. Exhibits evidence of solid overall game wear and the front is signed by the Hall of Famer in 9/10 black sharpie.

The jersey was gifted by Bench to musician Lonnie Shorr, in the summer of 1982 when he was appearing in concert with Kenny Rogers at the Riverfront Arena in Cincinnati, Ohio. Shorr's detailed letter of provenance attends. Letter of Provenance from Lonnie Shorr. LOA from Heritage Auctions. Full LOA from PSA/DNA. Full LOA from Beckett Authentication Services.
