1980 Gary Carter Game Worn Montreal Expos Jersey. One of only five catchers elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame since 1950, Gary Carter was not only one of the best catchers of his era, but is probably one of the top ten in Major League history. The Kid excelled at every facet of receiving and was a complete ballplayer. An adept glove man with a rifle arm, he thrived at handling difficult pitches and gunning down would-be thieves. More importantly, his knowledge and insight into pitchers and batters allowed him to dictate the pace of the game from behind the plate like few before or since. As a batter, he could hit for power and was a dependable RBI man. He retired as an eleven-time All-Star, three-time Gold Glove winner, and a World Series champion.

The exemplar offered here was worn by Carter during the 1980 season -- perhaps his finest campaign. The button-down home white knit displays stretchy, ribbed red/blue trim down the shoulders and sleeves, with "8 expos" on the front and "Carter 8" on the verso, all sewn-on in blue tackle twill. The team logo also appears over the left chest, all sewn-on in red/white/blue satin twill. Tagging includes a "Rawlings 42" label and a "Set 2 1980" flap tag. Best of all is a Christian reference which Carter penned inside in vintage black sharpie. Gary was a very religious man and often wore a cross around his neck when he played.

This specimen exhibits identifiable wear from the 1980 season when Carter earned an All-Star berth, Gold Glove, and a second place finish in the league MVP tally, after producing twenty-nine homers, 101 RBI, and stellar work behind the plate. LOA from Heritage Auctions.
