1979 Pete Rose Game Worn Uniform. After sixteen seasons of service to the Cincinnati Reds, Charlie hustled over to the City of Brotherly Love to continue his quest for Ty Cobb's unimaginable record in 1979. Here we present a road blue uniform utilized by Rose during that first season with the Philadelphia Phillies, one in which he would lead the National League in both singles (159) and on-base percentage (.418). All of the classic stylings are present in the jersey, with Rose's number "14" and logo "P" on the chest, and "Rose 14" appearing on verso. The satin lining at the collar and button path is a classy touch, as is the elegantly embroidered "Rose" swatch at the back interior collar, matching the "79 2" in the tail. The "Wilson [size] 44" label in the collar was officially discontinued the previous season, but it was not uncommon for jerseys made in 1978 to be used in 1979, as the style was the same. Zipper front still functions perfectly.

The matching pants actually date from three years later, as an embroidered swatch reading "Rose 82 3 28" in the waistband would attest. The "Wilson" label inside also holds an embroidered "33." The jersey shows moderate wear, while the pants' use could be considered light. As a matched pair the aesthetics are second only to the historical importance of any uniform worn by the game's most prolific hitter. And, if you're a betting man, the safe money is that one day this betting man will find his way into Cooperstown, giving the value of this offering a considerable boost in the process. LOA from Lou Lampson. Guide Value or Estimate: $5,000 - $8,000.
