Description

1979 Dave Winfield Game Worn & Signed San Diego Padres Jersey. Born on one of the most memorable days in baseball history, that of Bobby Thomson's "Shot Heard 'round the World," Dave Winfield seemed destined for diamond greatness from the beginning. Presented here is a home white San Diego Padres jersey from what is generally considered to be the finest season of his Hall of Fame career, one in which he led the National League in both runs batted in (118) and total bases (333). As memorable as that season is, the jersey itself is a single-season style that ranks as a favorite among many uniform aficionados.

This one remains in all-original condition with one small exception, as the nameplate is original but has been professionally reaffixed in place. "Padres 31" is applied to the chest in the classic yellow and brown font, with "Winfield 31" taking up the rear. "Wilson 44" label appears beneath a "31 79" embroidered swatch in lower left front exterior tail. Solid, season-long wear is evident throughout. A flawless black sharpie signature on rear numeral completes the package. Jersey derives from the personal collection of San Diego Padres traveling secretary John "Doc" Mattei. LOA from Heritage Auctions. Full LOA from PSA/DNA. Full LOA from Beckett Authentication Services.
