Beautiful full uni from historic 44-game hit streak season!
1978 Pete Rose Game Worn & Signed Cincinnati Reds Uniform. A
sharp single to center on May 5, 1978 made Pete Rose the thirteenth
member of the 3,000 Hit Club, bringing him into the embrace of
Montreal Expos first baseman and former Big Red Machine teammate
Tony Perez who couldn't hide his excitement at seeing an old friend
punch his ticket to baseball immortality despite the achievement
coming at his own team's expense. Every Reds teammate emerged from
the first base dugout at Riverfront to pay his respects, unaware
that an even greater achievement would be celebrated at the same
location seven years later.We cannot state with certainty that this is the uniform Rose was wearing in that contest, but it is Charlie Hustle himself who adds a "5/5/78" notation to his bold black sharpie autograph on both the jersey and matching pants. We have thus far been unable to locate film or photographic footage with the data points and/or clarity to provide for a definitive photo match. We should also note that this was the season Rose tied the National League record with a forty-four-game hit streak.
Number "14" and chenille Reds logo patch appears on the chest with a "14 Rose" on verso. Lower front interior tail is labeled "Rawlings [size] 44" with "Set 1 1978" flap tag affixed. The matching pants bear a "Rawlings [size] 32" tag and "14 32 24 78" swatch in the waistline. Appropriate game wear evident, with scattered minor staining that is consistent with tobacco juice.
