1978 Jim Rice Signed Game Worn Boston Red Sox Jersey -- MVP Season! "It was a shame that one of the finest seasons in Red Sox history was overshadowed by the feeble swing of a weedy infielder." -- Alexander Edelman.

What a season 1978 was for Jim Rice and his Boston Red Sox; filled with heroism and heartache.

The bad news for Boston was that it blew a fourteen-and-a-half-game lead in July, finishing the season in a dead heat with the dreaded New York Yankees who were in the midst of a miracle year. A tie-breaker game was played at Fenway Park in Boston to decide who would advance to the ALCS. Again, like they had in the regular season, the Red Sox took the early lead on a Yaz dinger, but the Bombers came roaring back on homers by Bucky Dent and Reggie. The final curtain came down on Beantown when the Goose got Yaz to pop out to end the game.

Lost in the aftermath was slugger Jim Rice's 1978 A.L. MVP performance; the magnum opus of his Hall of Fame career. Rice led the league in an incredible nine major statistical categories that year, including games (163), plate appearances (746), at bats (677), hits (213), triples (fifteen), home runs (forty-six), RBI (139), slugging percentage (.600), and total bases (406).

Here we present Rice's jersey from that historic season, with "Red Sox" arched across the chest and "14" on the verso, all sewn on in red/blue tackle twill. Red/blue trim adorns the collar. Tagging includes "McAuliffe" and "42" in the collar with "1978" and the washing instructions in the tail. The garment exhibits fine wear and is autographed in NRMT black sharpie on the front.
