1978 Carl Yastrzemski Game Worn Jersey. Twenty-three years at Fenway made this Hall of Fame outfielder a hero to two generations of New England baseball fans, placing him in the pantheon of Williams, Bird and Orr as gods of the Beantown sporting world. So the mere sight of this home white gamer once owned and operated by Yaz should bring back the fondest memories for millions of Bostonians worldwide. That unmistakable 1970's style is in full effect here, with the simple polyester blend pullover sporting an Old English "Red Sox" in a shallow arc across the chest, and the since-retired number "8" in bold two-tone tackle twill on verso. Local Brockton, Massachusetts supplier "McAuliffe Uniform Corp." label inside collar joins a "44" size tag, and center front tail offers a "1978" year tag and another noting washing instructions. A 9/10 blue sharpie signature appears at upper left chest. Wear is light but definite. Some adhesive residue on the back of the jersey is resultant of an earlier display, and should be easily removed.
This splendid specimen could be considered the definitive Red Sox artifact for reasons beyond its iconic former owner, as 1978 has gone down in baseball history as one of the most painful years of "The Curse." The Sox watched a fourteen-game lead over the Yankees in late July evaporate that summer, ending the season in a dead heat to pave the way for Bucky "&$%#-" Dent's home run dagger through the heart. Is this the jersey Yaz was wearing as he watched that ball summit the Green Monster? LOA from Lou Lampson. LOA from PSA/DNA. LOA from James Spence Authentication.
