Description

1977 Goose Gossage Game Worn Pittsburgh Pirates Jersey with Team Letter & Photo Match.
Rich Gossage's physical presence, aggressive demeanor, and vaunted fastball intimidated batters for more than two decades. In fact, a 1970's guide to pitchers rated the Gossage's fastball behind only Nolan Ryan's from 1975-79. Known for speaking his mind, the Goose once noted, "If I'm a batter I wouldn't hit against myself." Commentating on the role of relievers today versus when he played, he observed, "It takes three guys to do what I did." And likening pitchers to race racehorses he remarked, "If you train a horse to race half a block, that's all he's going to be able to run."

Gossage's Major League journey took him all over the country as he appeared with nine teams in a twenty-two year career. His second stop was in Pittsburgh where he stifled rallies for the Pirates in 1977. Gossage wore this bumblebee style "Descente size 44" jersey when he was staring down the opposition. The pullover comes with a team certificate. We have also photo matched the pinstripe alignment to Getty Images (153599023). The pinstripes match up to the "5" number on back.

A letter from Resolution Photomatching does attend. The jersey shows excellent use with sun fading to the two-tone numbers and team name. The tail holds four labels: "Descente," washing instructions, "Set II 1977" flap tag and "54 44 77" swatch. LOA from Heritage Auctions. LOA from Resolution Photomatching.
