    The King of the Royals!

1977 George Brett Game Worn Kansas City Royals Jersey, MEARS A9.5. No regular third baseman in Major League history has recorded more hits than this first ballot Hall of Famer, nor has any player matched Brett's feat of winning a batting title in three different decades. Though the 2014 team came up just one swing short of the World Championship, Brett remains the most recognizable Royal in franchise history over two decades after his retirement. A rookie with the 1974 Kansas City squad, Brett is entering his fifth decade of service to the franchise as vice president of baseball operations.

We expect that the renewed relevance of the long-suffering Midwestern ballclub will further enhance bidder interest in this classic powder blue pullover worn by Brett in his fifth of twenty-one seasons on the Royals playing roster. Though Brett had finished second to Yankees captain Thurman Munson in American League MVP voting in 1976, the year he wore this jersey was a breakout campaign of sorts for the young star, who doubled his previous best home run tally with twenty-two long balls, improving his slugging percentage by seventy points.

The garment presents in 100% original and unaltered condition, losing a half-point in the assessment of leading uniform authenticators MEARS due only to light staining on the chest which appears to be pine tar or tobacco juice, each a substance very familiar to Brett. "Kansas City" arches gently across the chest in white tackle twill, with the now-retired number "5" applied similarly to reverse. MEARS characterizes game use as "Heavy."

Team logo patch is affixed to left sleeve just above the distinctive three-striped elasticized cuff. Interior collar is tagged "Wilson [size] 42" above an embroidered "77" year swatch. Jersey is autographed on the chest in 9/10 blue sharpie, and an unknown hand has written "George Brett" in ballpoint ink at interior hem, invisible upon display. LOA from MEARS, A9.5. LOA from Heritage Auctions. Full LOA from PSA/DNA. Full LOA from James Spence Authentication.
