Description

1976 Catfish Hunter Game Worn Uniform. Like the other 1976 Yankees uniform pieces likewise presented within this auction, the offered uniform served a second tour of duty with the minor league Tacoma Yankees after closing out a season in the Bronx. Pinstriped jersey from the Yanks' first taste of October baseball since the departure of Mickey Mantle exhibits fine wear, with the minor league logo taking the position where the classic "NY" had once been (outline still clearly visible), and the number "29" original and unmoved on verso. Embroidered swatch reading "Hunter" appears at interior collar with "76 1" swatch appearing below the "Wilson [size] 46" label at lower left exterior tail.

Markered attributions to the pants' new owners are found in the waistband, but there remains the original embroidered swatch announcing the first owner. It reads, "Hunter 29 76 2 23," these figures indicating jersey number, year, uniform set number and inseam respectively. A "Wilson [size] 34" label is anchored at left. A scarce relic from the Hall of Famer's eighth and final All-Star season, and the ballclub's first American League pennant in a dozen years. Strong wear with a team repair at left knee, but the pants remain undamaged and perfect for display. LOA from Lou Lampson.
