1973 Willie Stargell Game Worn Pants. With the great Roberto Clemente's untimely passing at the end of 1972, Willie Stargell became the Pirates undisputed new leader in 1973, responding with perhaps the finest season of his Hall of Fame career. Pop led the senior circuit in doubles (forty-three), home runs (forty-four), and RBI's (119), while batting .299 and finishing second MVP balloting.

Dating from that 1973 campaign, these road gray knit trousers with drawstring front and two back pockets (one button is no longer present) are beautifully accented with the Pirates famed black/white/gold trim on a stretchy fabric around the waist. The interior includes a "Rawlings 38" manufacturer/size tag, "Set 2 #8P 1972" flap tag, and a rectangular gray swatch tag with "Stargell 38 24 73" chain-stitched in black thread.

The pants, which exhibit fine Major League game wear by Stargell during his Herculean 1973 masterpiece, were also undoubtedly used in the minors afterwards as "the interior designation of "Tim" in black marker attests. LOA from Heritage Auctions.
