1973 Hank Aaron Game Worn Atlanta Braves Jersey, Photo Matched! It's one of our favorite fashions of Major League Baseball's post-war era, a rather daring departure from the sport's norm that was immortalized with Aaron's 715th career home run to claim the home run title for himself. That Babe-busting model was the home white, of course, and this is the blue roadster he wore the season he edged to the brink, leaving fans and foes alike to spend a long winter waiting for his coronation in April 1974.

The 1973 season was Aaron's eighth and final in which he recorded forty or more long balls, and thus it's a veritable certainty that several free rides around the diamond were enjoyed in this garment. The blue and white knit pullover exhibits fine game wear that is consistent from the softening of the labels to the puckering of the tackle twill identifiers which announce "Braves 44" on chest, repeating those digits in larger format on verso. The glorious feather design adorns each sleeve. "Sand-Knit Size 42" label appears at interior collar above an embroidered "42-73" swatch. A second "Sand-Knit" label at lower left front tail speaks to Braves exclusivity.

An included letter of provenance from a major hobby figure whose collection appears in the "Smithsonian Baseball" book states that the jersey derives from the personal collection of the executive director of the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame well known to have close associations with the Braves. Included in the lot are photos of Aaron in 1973 wearing this jersey, as confirmed by Resolution Photomatching. LOA from Heritage Auctions. LOA from Resolution Photomatching.
