1973-75 Bob Gibson Game Worn St. Louis Cardinals Jersey. A missing year tag makes attribution to a single year impossible, but the format of the labels that remain and the collar style allow us to narrow the range to that which is reported in the lot title. This period marked the final three seasons of a Hall of Fame career characterized by such utter dominance that the rules of the game had to be altered to level the playing field, both literally and figuratively. The pullover knit features the classic birds and bat logo in colorful chenille, with number "45" applied to front and back in red and navy tackle twill. "Gibson" arches in block lettering across shoulders. Lower right interior tail is labeled "Rawlings [size] 44." Some scattered rust and ink staining could likely be minimized with a careful laundering. A rare opportunity to own a genuine gamer from one of the elite pitchers of the post-war era. LOA from Heritage Auctions.

The hammer price for my Mantle card significantly exceeded my admittedly conservative estimations, and I couldn't be more pleased.
