    Description

    1972-73 Eddie Mathews Game Worn & Signed Atlanta Braves Manager's Jersey. Glorious style has been imprinted upon the brains of the standard baseball historian by the footage of Hank Aaron becoming Home Run King in it, but this specimen belonged to his long-time playing teammate and fellow 500 Home Run Club member Eddie Mathews, who managed 311 games for the Braves in the early 1970's. Red, white and blue text announces "Braves 41" on the chest, those digits repeated on verso. A portion of the front numeral "1" has been re-stitched. Sleeves bear the wonderful feather imagery that serve as the format's most identifiable trait. Two-button collar opens to reveal dual "Sand-Knit" tagging denoting Braves exclusivity and "Size 40." An embroidered swatch reads, "Mathews" just below.

    Some staining appears, but this is actually a common trait among these jerseys as a fire in the Braves storage facility affected quite a bit of their wardrobe this way. Right chest bears a bold blue sharpie signature. A marvelous relic from one of the greatest Braves of all time. LOA from Heritage Auctions. Full LOA from James Spence Authentication.
