1971 Willie McCovey Game Worn San Francisco Giants Jersey, MEARS A9. He wore the double-fours to distinction for nineteen seasons of San Francisco Giants service, hitting both the most and the longest long balls ever launched at Candlestick Park. This grey flannel gamer joined the original "Big Mac" for the road half of his 1971 appearances however, and was quite possibly worn during his sixth and final All-Star Game appearance at Detroit's Tiger Stadium.

The experts at MEARS assure that the garment is 100% original and unaltered, reporting "light to moderate wear" as the cause for the sole point deducted. McCovey had torn the cartilage in his knee during the final game of spring training but opted to play with a lightened work load rather than undergo surgery that would have sidelined him for months. "Every town we went to I had to have [my knee] drained because it would swell up as big as my head," he later recounted. McCovey would never fully recover.

The classic design boasts "San Francisco" in Halloween-colored tackle twill, with number "44" similarly applied to verso. Interior collar holds embroidered "McCovey" swatch, with "44 71" sewn directly into the jersey tail beneath "Rawlings [size] 44" and washing instructions labeling, the latter trailing a "Set 1 #8P 1971" flap tag. The garment is flawlessly preserved, without a single stain or moth hole as are typically found in decades-old flannel. A top-tier specimen fully worthy of its lofty professional assessment. LOA from MEARS, A9.
