1970 Ted Williams Game Worn Washington Senators Jersey. Like Rogers Hornsby before him, Ted Williams made few friends during his managing career, unable to accept the inevitable fact that his players could never live up to his own elite standard of achievement. Nonetheless, he was able to deliver the franchise's only winning season of the franchise's first decade and a half during his 1969 debut campaign, and the presented garment found Williams struggling unsuccessfully to repeat that early success for his sophomore year as skipper.

The creamy white cotton garment features a scripted "Senators" on the chest in red and navy tackle twill, with the immortal number "9" similarly applied to verso. Interior collar is tagged, "Wilson [size] 48," with the "1970" vintage embroidered directly into the jersey body at lower left front tail. Appropriate managerial wear is evident.

A pair of documents speak to the history of this special relic, the first a notarized affidavit asserting that the jersey was left behind in a D.C. dry cleaner when the Senators relocated to become the Texas Rangers. A second document is supplied by The Babe Ruth Birthplace and Baseball Center museum in Baltimore, acknowledging a loan of the jersey for display in 1994. LOA from Heritage Auctions. Documentation as listed above.

The hammer price for my Mantle card significantly exceeded my admittedly conservative estimations, and I couldn't be more pleased.
