1969 Willie Mays Game Worn & Signed San Francisco Giants Cap Attributed to 600th Home Run Game. Only the most educated of Mays enthusiasts will spot the unique attribute of this cap that places it on the head of the legendary Giant even more definitively than the included letter of provenance from the widow of long-serving team equipment manager Lew Brinson. While many baseball historians and collectors know that Mays intentionally ordered his caps too small in order to amplify outfield drama by making them tumble from his head at full sprint, far fewer are aware that he special-ordered his caps with the leather headband reversed so that the suede texture was against his skin and the smooth leather texture faced the wool body of the hat.

We find that unique modification here, in this heavily sweat-stained gamer bearing a vintage marker number "24" and ballpoint ink "600 H.R." notation under the visor. Interior headband holds proper "Pro KM Cap" label and "1/2" stamping, which we take to mean size six and a half (6.5), consistent with other known Mays representations.

A 10/10 silver sharpie signature on the top of the visor dates to recent years, adding the cherry on top of a particularly delectable treat. A marvelous game worn cap from perhaps the most naturally gifted ballplayer of all time, and one whose highlight reel features many tumbling ball caps. Letter of provenance from widow of Giants equipment manager. Full LOA from PSA/DNA. LOA from Heritage Auctions.
