Description
1969 Brooks Robinson Game Worn Baltimore Orioles Jersey. It was one of the most memorable American summers of the twentieth century, punctuated by the Apollo XI moon landing, the Manson killings, a tragic automobile accident at a Chappaquiddick bridge, and the music festival at Woodstock, New York. But baseball fans old enough to remember that tumultuous time will likewise recall the Baltimore Orioles' dominance of the American League, posting 112 victories (including its three-game ALCS sweep of the Twins) to advance to the franchise's second World Series appearance.Presented is a road grey flannel from that team's most popular player, and to this day challenged only by the great Cal Ripken, Jr. as Baltimore's favorite ballplaying son. "The Human Vacuum Cleaner" would claim his tenth of sixteen consecutive Gold Gloves for his mastery of the hot corner in 1969, driving in eighty-four of the 779 runs scored by the Birds during the regular season. Phenomenal wear is evident throughout, notably in the pilling of the orange and black felt which spells "Baltimore 5" across the chest (original identifiers on front reattached) and "B. Robinson 5" on verso, the first name initial necessary to differentiate Brooks from his Hall of Fame compatriot Frank. The important Baseball Centennial patch remains affixed at the left sleeve, custom shortened as per Robinson's personal preference. A grey felt swatch applied at interior collar denotes an embroidered "42 Set 2 69 6," while "Spalding 42" tagging appears at lower left front tail. A chipped second button is the only stone which can be tossed at this picture perfect specimen. A 10/10 black sharpie signature from the jersey's former owner is tastefully placed at lower right front tail. LOA from Heritage Auctions. Full LOA from PSA/DNA (autograph). Full LOA from James Spence Authentication (autograph).
