Description

1967 Mickey Mantle 500th Home Run Game Worn Pants. First surfacing on the hobby's auction block in the famous 1999 Barry Halper event, these late career pinstriped pants would become a research project for its new owner, who set off for the library with the pants in tow, hoping to locate an image of the Mick wearing the pants in Bronx action. As any collector active in Yankees uniform collecting is well aware, the nature of the pinstriped material utilized for home games allows for definitive photo matching, the tailoring of jerseys and pants creating intersections of lines as singularly unique as a snowflake or fingerprint.

The findings were cause for celebration, coinciding with a rare bright spot in a period of Yankees history otherwise best left forgotten, the game-winning seventh inning solo shot on May 14th which would establish Mantle as the sixth member of the exclusive 500 Home Run Club. The pants exhibit very heavy wear from this game and beyond, with hand-markered names in the waistband suggesting that some of this wear occurred on the minor league level after Mantle's ownership. The original embroidered swatch remains, however, announcing "Mantle 7 67 36 24 ins." The "Spalding" manufacturer's label and washing instructions tag are nearby. And a 10/10 blue sharpie autograph from Mantle at the interior of the buttoned fly path completes the package.

With any Mantle jersey infused with such historical import certain to garner a strong six-figure price tag, the offered pants makes for a highly attractive alternative. LOA from Heritage Auctions (pants). Full LOA from PSA/DNA (autograph). Full LOA from James Spence Authentication (autograph).
