    Description

1967 Eddie Mathews Game Worn Houston Astros Jersey. After fifteen seasons wearing the uniform of the Braves in three different hometowns, the legendary slugger was sent along with Sandy Alomar to the Houston Astros in a New Year's Eve trade. Mathews would play just 101 games in an Astros uniform before a late season trade to the Detroit Tigers, with whom he would complete his career. Certainly one of the scarcest Mathews representations in the hobby, this home white flannel wins big points for its highly collectible style as well, with the front "Astros" design crafted from orange and navy chenille as opposed to the more conventional tackle twill. The rear felt number "11" shows some damage, but the front remains perfect for display. Team logo patch is affixed at left sleeve. Though Mathews would hit his 500th career homer on the road this season, a photograph snapped at an award ceremony back home at the Astrodome finds him wearing a jersey identical to this one. Proper "Wilson [size] 42" label appears at lower left front tail, with a hand lettered "Mathews" in black marker below. Solid wear throughout. LOA from Heritage Auctions.
