    Description

1966 Mark Belanger Game Worn Baltimore Orioles Rookie-Era Jersey with Pants, MEARS A8. The left side of the infield was off-limits for the years Belanger shared it with Hall of Fame third baseman Brooks Robinson, the pair building a joint Gold Glove collection numbering a staggering twenty-four. But the twenty-two year old shortstop had only nineteen Major League appearances to his credit by the time the Orioles had defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 1966 Fall Classic, so the offered ensemble enjoys both rookie and World Championship vintage.

The experts at MEARS assert that the garments are 100% original and unaltered but for a restored name on the back of the jersey, a common issue from a time when Major League uniforms saw secondary use in the farm system. The orange and black tackle twill "Orioles" on the chest is vintage to 1966, as are the similarly constructed number "7" applied to front and reverse. Lower left front tail of the jersey is tagged "Wilson [size] 42" above an embroidered "66 Set 1" swatch. Game wear is assessed as "light to moderate," and the jersey suffers none of the staining or moth holes common in vintage flannels.

Matching pants are tagged "Wilson [size] 34" inside waistband beside an embroidered swatch reporting, "37-34-27-66-2." This would suggest they originally belonged to pitcher Stu Miller. The pants likewise present beautifully. LOA from MEARS, A8. LOA from Heritage Auctions.
