1966 Curt Flood Game Worn St. Louis Cardinals Jersey. The brilliant but troubled Gold Glove outfielder was one of the greatest talents of his era, but Flood ultimately martyred his career in defiance of the reserve clause, telling Commissioner Bowie Kuhn in 1969, "I do not feel that I am a piece of property to be bought and sold irrespective of my wishes." For better or for worse, few athletes in Major League history have had a greater effect upon the game, and for that reason the few known Flood gamers draw great attention from the collecting community.

This home white flannel was worn by the pioneering star throughout the 1966 Major League season, one in which Flood failed to commit a single error in 399 chances for a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage. After the season's close, the jersey was sent down to the minors for secondary wear, at which stage the numbers on front and back and surname across the shoulders were stripped and altered. They have since been professionally restored to original condition. The embroidered "Flood 66" at lower left front tail beneath the proper "Rawlings [size] 38" label was likewise removed, but the faint outline is still visible. Below is a washing instructions label with "Set 1 1966" flap tag. Chenille birds and bat logo on chest is original. Minor damage to lower button path. An important relic from one of the post-war game's most intriguing figures. LOA from Heritage Auctions.

The hammer price for my Mantle card significantly exceeded my admittedly conservative estimations, and I couldn't be more pleased.
