1966 Boog Powell Game Worn Baltimore Orioles Uniform - Championship Season!

UPDATE: This lot includes an LOA from MEARS, A9.5.

In Boog Powell's thirteen seasons as the Orioles first baseman, Baltimore tallied nine ninety-win seasons, three 100-win seasons, five A..L East crowns, four A.L. flags, and two World Series titles. During that period, the 6-4 230-pound Powell was one of baseball's most dependable two-way players, exhibiting run-producing power at the plate and skilled glove work in the field. In the Orioles four World Series years, Boog averaged thirty-two home runs, 109 RBI, and batted .290.

Featured here is perhaps the earliest and most desirable Boog Powell uniform ever offered for public sale. It dates from 1966, when Baltimore captured its first World Series and Powell finished third in the A.L. MVP balloting (behind teammates Frank and Brooks Robinson) after recording thirty-four home runs, 109 RBI and batting .287.

This gorgeous home flannel uniform comes complete with jersey and pants. "Orioles" diagonally scripted across the chest with "26" offset below left and on the verso, in orange tackle twill atop black felt, really pops out against the beautifully aged cream-colored flannel fabric. Meanwhile, "Powell", which appears arched in tall black felt letters on the verso, is completely original and unrestored, which is extremely rare for Orioles flannels of this era. The orange/black/orange collar and sleeve piping and seven-button front are also original and fully intact. The uniform's 1960-66 period labeling includes a "Wilson 48" tag and "66-3" in black chainlink on a white felt swatch in the jersey's tail. The matching pants feature a "Wilson 40" tag, "Powell" penned in vintage black laundry marker, and felt swatch remnants, all in the waist. Tremendous wear.
