Description
1966 Bill Mazeroski Game Worn Jersey. Though the Pittsburgh Pirates second baseman will always be remembered best for his Game Seven walk-off home run to snatch the 1960 World Series from the dominant New York Yankees, the path to Maz' Hall of Fame induction was paved with leather, not lumber. The eight-time Gold Glover is still considered one of the greatest middle infielders of all time, blessed with enormous range and a sharpshooter's rifle of an arm. The 1966 season during which he suited up in this road grey flannel vest was one of many during which he led the National League in fielding percentage, assists, and put-outs at second. The jersey exhibits strong use from Mazeroski's days on the road with Clemente and Stargell, indicative of a full 162-game season without a day off, a feat he would repeat in 1967. "Pirates 9" is presented in black and yellow felt on the jersey obverse, with his retired digit repeated on verso in larger format. Some of the stitching here has been reinforced. The proper "MacGregor size 44" label has come loose at left edge at interior collar, but remains firmly affixed on the right. At the base of the interior button path another "MacGregor" tag indicates "Set 2 1966," just above a washing instructions label. The jersey remains in 100% original and unaltered condition.
