Description
1965 Houston Astros Game Worn Jersey. Though Major League Baseball had gotten its start in Houston three seasons earlier, the move to the Astrodome in 1965 brought an end to the Colt 45's and a new, more suitable nickname. Presented is a specimen from the first batch of home jerseys worn indoors, the start of a growing trend many baseball purists lament to this day. The chenille "Astros" and shooting star on the chest are original to the jersey, as is the left sleeve patch, but it does appear that the number "48" on verso is not original. Likewise, the 1969 Baseball Centennial patch on the right sleeve is incorrect. Though this style was still utilized by the Big League club in 1969, the patch should be on the left, and our strong suspicion is that the right sleeve application is due to use that year in the minors. Lower left front tail is tagged "Wilson [size] 48" above a "65-2" embroidered directly into the jersey body. Heavy wear, as previously noted, is due to likely secondary use in the farm system.
