Stengel's final season in a Major League uniform...

1965 Casey Stengel Game Worn New York Mets Uniform, SGC Superior. "Can't anyone here play this game?" he famously shouted at his expansion 1962 Mets as they limped through a 120-loss debut season. Three years later, the question still remained, and at the time Stengel's midseason slip and fall in the restroom of the famous Toot Shor's midtown Manhattan eatery ended his half-century in a Major League uniform, his Mets managerial record stood at a a lowly 175 and 404.

But today we can look back at those early struggles as a charming and necessary prelude to the Miracle of 1969 and understand that this baseball icon, a veteran of every Big Apple ballclub, was the perfect man to lead this team across the wide desert and toward the promised land. We'd argue that Casey Stengel is the most important figure in New York Mets history and, if you agree, you'll see this opportunity to own one of his very last Big League uniforms as the exciting offering it is.

The road grey style features a two-tone "New York" across the jersey chest in a format that recalls the Giants font of the 1930's-50's. Number "37," properly retired from the Mets' wardrobe in Stengel's honor, adorns chest and back. Sleeves reveal team logo and New York World's Fair patches at left and right respectively. Interior collar bears embroidered swatch reading, "37-42-1965-1," while lower left front tail holds "Wilson [size] 42" label. Matching pants are tagged "Wilson [size] 40" with a "37-24-1965-1" embroidered swatch at interior waistband.

Both halves of the uniform exhibit appropriate and consistent managerial wear, and survive without any staining or moth damage common to decades-old flannel. LOA from SGC, Superior. LOA from Heritage Auctions.
