1964 Eddie Mathews Game Worn Jersey. "I've only known three or four perfect swings in my time," Ty Cobb once said when asked his opinion of the young Milwaukee Braves outfielder. "This lad has one of them." It's certainly high praise coming from one of only two members of the 4,000 Hit Club, but Cobb's and Mathews' approach at the plate couldn't have been more different. Whereas Cobb subscribed to the Wee Willie Keeler theory of "hit 'em where they ain't," Mathews was always a dead pull hitter who deposited twenty-two percent of his base hits into the outfield seats compared to under three percent for Cobb.

The presented home white flannel dates from Mathews' thirteenth consecutive season of twenty-plus long balls, edging him ever closer to immortality within the 500 Home Run Club. The unmistakable design provides "Braves 41" in red and navy tackle twill on the chest, with number "41" repeated on verso. While the nameplate has been removed, the outline of "Mathews" is clearly visible when held up to the light. The chenille screaming Brave patch remains affixed to left sleeve. Interior collar holds white felt swatch, which has been embroidered "Mathews 64-Set-2." Lower front left tail features "Wilson [size] 42" label.

Moderate use is evident, leading MEARS to assign a final grade of A9, with a point lost only for the removed nameplate. The jersey otherwise remains in stellar condition. The letter also notes that the jersey had been on display at the "World Series Wisconsin" exhibit from July 2007 through January 2008. LOA from MEARS. LOA from Lou Lampson.
