    Description

1963 New York Mets Game Jersey. Gorgeous road grey flannel was clearly with the team during its sophomore campaign, but the absence of apparent wear precludes us from being able to definitively establish it as game worn. The number "3" on verso belonged to Tim Harkness during the 1963 Mets season, but the "48" size (which contradicts the "Wilson [size] 42" label in the tail) would be a bit excessive for his six-foot two, 180 pound frame. Vibrant blue and orange felt "New York" arches gently across the chest, and the team logo patch is affixed to left sleeve. A larger rear number assures this is not a 1962 model, and the team patch on the sleeve would be replaced in 1964, allowing for definitive dating to 1963. The stitching path of a lost swatch in the collar strongly suggests this is no sample jersey either. A bit of a mystery shirt, but a truly beautiful and eminently displayable one nonetheless. LOA from Heritage Auctions.
