1963 Brooks Robinson Game Worn & Signed Baltimore Orioles Jersey, MEARS A10. No player in Major League history has been identified as the best defensive player at his position more often than this man, who earned sixteen Gold Gloves and the nickname "The Human Vacuum Cleaner" for his brilliance at third base during twenty-three seasons of service to the Baltimore Orioles. Heritage veterans will recall that we auctioned Mr. Robinson's personal collection in 2015 and found him to be one of the most personable and gracious athletes we've ever met despite his peerless accomplishments in the sport. One Detroit sportswriter characterized his humble nobility best, saying, "I always had the idea he didn't know he was Brooks Robinson."This garment found Robinson doing his best Lou Gehrig impersonation, leading the American League in attendance in every season between 1961 and his MVP campaign of 1964. We suspect that many of you will view this format with a bit of puzzlement, as it's a rare style worn only three seasons (1963-65), with every other home jersey of Robinson's lengthy tenure bearing the far more familiar "Orioles" script. Here it's a comparatively simple block-lettered design, although the immortal number "5" on verso remains a welcome constant. Lower left front tail bears proper "Wilson [size] 42" label above an embroidered felt swatch reporting, "5-42-63-1." A bold sharpie autograph appears just above.
