    Description

1961 Lou Klein "College of Coaches" Game Worn Chicago Cubs Jersey. How about owning a standout piece of memorabilia paying tribute to one of the darkest eras of managerial malfeasance in major league history? Crushed under the burden of 14 consecutive years in the National League doghouse second division, Cubs' owner P.K. Wrigley decided to go without a skipper in 1961 and opted instead for an eight-headed camel committee. Lou Klein was one of the lucky coaches who got to try his hand at managing through several different levels of the organization that giddy season, including stints at The Big Show. Klein's No. 60 home jersey is offered here complete with collar tagging of 61-1-44 and a somewhat crudely added stitching "60," along with the appropriate Wilson 44 tagging on the lower-left tail. A relatively pristine example of the Cubbies' lovable blue Cub logo adorns the left sleeve, and Klein's No. 60 is on the back. The jersey shows considerable wear and some very minor staining near some of the buttons but remains a fine bit of memorabilia from those dark days when losing and clubhouse chaos ruled the roost at Wrigley. LOA from Heritage Auctions.
