Description

1961 Carl Yastrzemski Game Worn Boston Red Sox Rookie Jersey, MEARS A7. Just as Mickey Mantle fortuitously arrived on the scene when the Yankee Clipper was about to sail off into the sunset, so did this outfielder with the challenging last name come just in time to fill a void left by the departure of the legendary Ted Williams. Presented is one of the very first jerseys worn in Major League competition by the man who would become the face of the new Red Sox, and who would ultimately follow his iconic predecessor into Cooperstown immortality.

The road grey jersey was with the superstar outfielder during his first games at Yankee Stadium and Comiskey Park, the navy blue "Boston" arching gently across the chest in its original and unaltered format. The jersey's verso now holds a minor league number "3," the result of secondary farm club usage after the Major League season's conclusion, but the original stitching path of a properly fonted number "8" is clearly visible beneath. Lower left front tail holds local Boston "Tim McAuliffe" manufacturer's label, with "'61" year and "42" size tags at each lower corner. A circular minor league patch has been removed from the left sleeve, leaving behind an almost imperceptible stitching path. The loss of the original number "8" is the main factor in the points lost in MEARS final A7 rating. Chest is beautifully inscribed in 10/10 sharpie, "Carl Yastrzemski, My 1961 Gamer, HOF 1989, TC 1967." Solid wear but no damage to report. LOA from MEARS, A7. Full LOA from PSA/DNA. Full LOA from James Spence Authentication. LOA from Heritage Auctions.
