    Description

1960 Don Drysdale Game Worn Los Angeles Dodgers Uniform, MEARS A9.5. "I hate all hitters," the Hall of Fame right hander once explained. "I start a game mad and stay that way until its over." Arguably the most famous "head hunter" in the game's history, Drysdale led the National League in hit batsmen five times, plunking 154 during his fourteen-season career.

The 1960 campaign was one of those years the flame-throwing righty beaned more batters (10) than any other National Leaguer, but you'll also find the bold typeface of supremacy in the columns for strikeouts (246) and WHIP (1.063), all the proof you'd need that it was intent and not poor control when his fastball met flesh. Drysdale's July was extraordinary in 1960, earning Player of the Month honors for a 6-0 record with a 2.00 ERA and forty-eight strikeouts.

This is an extraordinary full home white flannel uniform worn by the sport's most feared ace, the jersey bearing the classic "Dodgers" script across the chest and his now-retired number "53" affixed in red and blue to front and verso respectively. Lower left front tail reveals "Rawlings Hall of Fame Flannel" label with "46" year tag to the right and "Drysdale 60" embroidered directly into the jersey body below.

Matching pants bear same maker's label with washing instructions and size "38" tags on either side at interior waistband, and an embroidered swatch reporting, "Drysdale 60 33 ins" below. Bottom stitching of swatch is partially separated, a minor fault noted only in the interest of full disclosure.

The half-point lost in the MEARS assessment is due to minimal staining/soiling--our catalog imagery should properly convey that the glorious aesthetics are in no way minimized. A Cooperstown-quality full uniform from one of the greatest Dodgers of them all. LOA from MEARS, A9.5. LOA from Heritage Auctions.
