1959 Harmon Killebrew Game Worn Washington Senators Rookie Jersey with Photo Match. Though the young slugger made limited appearances for the Capital city club each season between 1954 and 1958, the year he sported this home flannel gamer was the first that he exceeded forty-four games (153, to be exact), thus establishing the offering as a coveted rookie model. Killer's numbers during this campaign surely left many Senators fans wondering why it took so long to name the kid a starter, as his forty-two long balls led all American Leaguers and earned him his first of eleven career All-Star nods. The jersey exhibits very strong wear and remains 100% original and unaltered, which provides the exciting photo match of the star third baseman at the plate. We can see that the photo's pinstripe alignment as it intersects with the navy and red tackle twill "Senators" script on the chest, and the team logo patch on the left sleeve, are identical to the jersey offered. Number "3" remains firmly in place on verso, though we must note that tearing of the fabric at the lower edge of the digit has been professionally and discreetly patched inside. Interior collar holds embroidered "Killebrew" swatch and lower left front tail is patched "Wilson [size] 44" with an embroidered "1959" swatch just below. Zipper on chest remains fully functional. With collectors of Hall of Famers, 500 Home Run Club members and rookie gamers all set upon a collision course when this lot hits the auction block, the jersey should inspire quite a bidding war. Arguably the most desirable Killer jersey in the hobby. LOA from Heritage Auctions.
