    1959-64 Smoky Burgess Game Worn Pittsburgh Pirates Jersey. He was regraded as one of the top catchers of the National League around the time he suited up in this road grey flannel vest, quite possibly during the glorious World Championship season of 1960, one of six years Burgess represented the Senior Circuit in the All-Star Game. As one would expect of a starting catcher's jersey, this garment exhibits solid playing wear, even bearing a team repair near the black and yellow felt number "6" on reverse. "Pirates" spans the chest in classic team font. Interior collar holds "MacGregor Size 46" label, correct for Burgess' beefy five-foot eight inch, 185 pound frame. Very light staining near waist is likely due to sweaty dye bleed from Burgess' belt. A marvelous representation of the most recognizable Clemente-era Steeltown fashion. LOA from Heritage Auctions.
