1958-64 Whitey Ford Game Worn New York Yankees Batting Helmet, MEARS Authentic. He's number one in career pitching victories for the sport's most decorated franchise, but this relic finds the Monument Park and Cooperstown resident on the other side of the sixty feet, six inches. We've always loved this stencil format of the Bombers' batting helmet, both as an unusual and appealing aesthetic choice and for its historical positioning at the early stages of the gear's evolution. It was a particularly fruitful era in the Bronx, with six pennants and three World Championships falling within the lot title's range.

The uncracked flapless fiberglass beauty exhibits light but definite wear, appropriate for the limited plate appearances of a pitcher. Interior padding remains intact, as does the proper "American Baseball Cap [size] 7-1/4" affixed label. Nearby, antique equipment tape bears a hand-markered "Ford 16." The experts at MEARS confirm that the style conforms with known Yankees exemplars, and that the tape and writing is decades old. LOA from MEARS, Authentic.

The hammer price for my Mantle card significantly exceeded my admittedly conservative estimations, and I couldn't be more pleased.
