Description

1957 Rene Valdes Game Worn Brooklyn Dodgers Jersey. We must being by addressing the elephant in the room, as the offered jersey bears neither the Brooklyn name nor Valdes' number "49," but an embroidered (and misspelled) "Valdez 57" at lower left front tail beneath the "Spalding [size] 42" labeling assures that this is a gamer from the Bums' final season in the Big Apple. The Cuban right-hander's full Major League service was confined to just thirteen innings of work that year, so it made perfect sense to recondition the garment for secondary wear as the team headed west.

No Dodger ever sported number "65" during the flannel era, so it would stand to reason that the strong wear is from spring training or perhaps a local minor league affiliate, but the shell will always be a historical treasure marking the end of a glorious era in New York baseball. Garment exhibits the noted alterations, strong wear and a loose but still present button. LOA from Heritage Auctions.
