1957 Hank Severeid All-Star Game Worn St. Louis Browns Throwback Uniform. Severeid's handwriting on the box containing this uniform reads "Got this uniform about 1960 from Cardinals (Mr. Busch) after All-Star game in St. Louis," which could only be the 1957 Sportsman's Park event. The gorgeous, understated style is crafted from soft white flannel with brown trim and only a simple logo "SL" on the sleeve to represent the hometown. "Severeid" is chain stitched into the jersey tail below the "Rawlings Hall of Fame Flannel" size "44" tagging. Matching pants are similarly tagged with size "40" designation and "25" inseam" strip tag. Chain stitching here announces "Severeid 1922," suggesting that the uniform was worn as part of 35th anniversary team reunion for that specific year at the St. Louis All-Star Game. Even the original belt, size 7 1/4 cap and matching stirrups are here! Is it sports memorabilia, or the coolest Halloween costume ever? You'll be the only 1920's St. Louis Browns player on the trick or treating circuit, for sure. LOA from Heritage Auctions.

    The Hank Severeid Collection.

This is one of nine lots deriving from the personal collection of Henry "Hank" Severeid, whose baseball career began as a twenty-year old catcher for the 1911 Cincinnati Reds and ended only with his sudden passing while working as a scout for the 1968 Boston Red Sox. A member of the 1925 Senators and 1926 Yankees American League Championship teams, Severeid dedicated over half a century of his life to our National Pastime, and Heritage is pleased to present the following selection of artifacts from his journey. All lots are consigned directly by the Severeid family.

The hammer price for my Mantle card significantly exceeded my admittedly conservative estimations, and I couldn't be more pleased.
