Description
Hall of Fame flannel straight out of Ebbets!
1956 Walt Alston Game Worn Brooklyn Dodgers Jersey, MEARS A10. He's number nine on the Major Leagues' managerial career victories list, packed tight within a brotherhood of Big Apple legends, just behind Joe McCarthy and just ahead of Leo Durocher and Casey Stengel. It was Alston who presided over the sole World Championship enjoyed by the borough of Brooklyn, and he'd win three more in Los Angeles after the heartbreaking relocation. His Bums would come up a single game short the year he sported this home white flannel at Ebbets Field, the last of seven Brooklyn seasons to conclude in a Subway Series against the hated Yankees. The distinctive style instantly transports us back to the glory days of New York City baseball, creamy white flannel providing a scripted blue felt "Dodgers" and a red number "24" on the chest, those digits repeated in blue on reverse. Lower left front tail holds the proper "Spalding" label and size "44" designator above a blue embroidered "Alston" sewn directly into the body. Lower left interior tail finds a "Set 1 1956" flap tag anchored by a washing instructions label.
The staining and moth holes typical of decades-old wool garments are absent here, leaving the jersey to present as utterly flawless. Without a single identifier or button out of place, the experts at MEARS were inspired to assign a perfect rating, making this arguably the finest Alston representation ever to grace the hobby's auction block. LOA from MEARS, A10. LOA from Heritage Auctions.

The hammer price for my Mantle card significantly exceeded my admittedly conservative estimations, and I couldn't be more pleased.View More Testimonials
