    Description

1956 Herb Score Game Worn Cleveland Indians Jersey. He's best remembered as the victim of a terrible injury on May 7, 1957, struck in the face by a scorching line drive off the bat of New York Yankees shortstop Gil McDougald that nearly blinded him and left both pitcher and batter psychologically scarred. Neither Score nor McDougald were ever quite the same players again. This home white flannel derives from happier times, as the southpaw ace posted a stellar twenty and nine record to follow his 1955 Rookie of the Year campaign. "Indians" spans the chest in red and navy tackle twill script, with number "27" applied in similar format to verso. Chief Wahoo smiles from the left sleeve. Interior collar holds embroidered "Score" swatch, with a similar "1956" swatch underscoring the "Wilson [size] 44" and washing instructions labels in lower left front tail. Solid wear evident, and a few small moth holes on verso that serve as little distraction. A quality representation from Score's American League-leading 263-strikeout campaign. LOA from Heritage Auctions.
