1955 Roy Sievers Game Worn Washington Senators Uniform. Rare and highly collectible road grey Senators uniform was consigned to this auction by the 1949 American League Rookie of the Year himself, who came to visit Heritage as we held an appraisal event in his St. Louis hometown. Sievers was one of the most feared sluggers of the day, his 106 runs batted in for the 1955 season outpacing the likes of Kaline, Mantle and Williams, who all appeared in the American League's top ten for the statistic. By far the biggest star on a team that featured a nineteen-year old Harmon Killebrew, Sievers' run production doubled all but first baseman Mickey Vernon's tally on the '55 Senators squad.

The jersey features a zippered front (still functional) and the shortened sleeves favored by the power hitters of the era. A navy and red tackle twill "Washington" arches across the chest in two-inch tall block lettering. Sievers' number "2" is applied to verso. "Spalding" label appears at interior collar, flanked on the right side by a size "44" swatch and "Set 1 1955" flap tag. A white felt swatch below holds a chainstitched "Sievers." Matching pants are tagged "Rawlings [size] 38" with a felt swatch attribution to Jim "Lemon," but were transferred to Sievers' ownership as indicated by his name and jersey number appearing in marker at interior waistband. The pants are flap tagged to "Set 1 1957." We even have the matching stirrups, confirmed by Mark Okkonen's definitive uniform guide as the proper style, and the belt for the pants. All pieces exhibit strong wear but no damage to note. LOA from Heritage Auctions.
