    Description

1955 Johnny Groth Game Worn Washington Senators Uniform. As a twenty-year-old phenom, Groth was tabbed for superstardom and even likened to New York's great DiMaggio. When the can't-miss prospect didn't achieve the gold standard which was expected of him, he was labeled a 'flameout.' Still, Groth ended his fifteen-season career with a respectable .279 batting average and an outstanding fielding percentage of .987, committing just thirty-six errors 2,684 total chances.

From his lone season in the District of Columbia, we present here Groth's zipper-front, road gray flannel complete uniform. Reminiscent of the capital building itself, "Washington" is arched across the front of the jersey in full block navy on red tackle twill. On the verso we find a solitary "4" of the same construction. Tagging includes "Spalding," "42" and "Set 1 1955" in the collar, with a washing label in the tail. Matching gray flannel pants display "Spalding," "34," "27" inseam" and washing instructions in the waistband, along with Groth's "4" in vintage black laundry marker. Fantastic condition and a wonderful representation of a golden era in America. LOA from Heritage Auctions.
